The internet is over. Thanks for playing!  (Read 1211 times)

Most of you know that I've been having issues with my internet over the last few weeks - my DSL line's damaged and I'm only getting intermittent uptime, so usually when my connection starts working I go through a frantic download spree in preparation for the next time it goes down.

Each time is worse than the last, so it got me thinking about what I'd do if the internet didn't come back up after the next time it dropped - which led to me wondering what you guys would do if stuck in the same position and only had a limited timeframe to grab as much as you could in preparation for being dumped back into the telecommunication dark ages.

So, hypothetically - the world's internet has been entrusted to the Madagascan government who are about to shut down everything after misinterpreting the definition of a virus. You have just 12 hours before the blackout is initiated; private servers are not an option, all public Wi-Fi spots will be discontinued, and you've been capped as to not exceed a 4mbps speed. All servers, websites and torrents are fully operational and can be freely abused with the time you have left. What do you do with the time you've got left, and what would you suggest people download before it all comes to an end?

Let's get some creative answers :sparkle: Keep in mind you can't realistically download everything due to speed and space restrictions, bonus points if you provide links to awesome things!

Well, I'm gonna have to be a bit contrary and answer the question in a way you didn't intend.. :P For me, there's not really much I could get out of a finite download of media.. I rarely watch movies/tv shows as it is, so stocking up on things isn't entirely appealing to me. I wouldn't know where to start and would rather not waste time looking for downloads.

What I would miss the most would be the people, not the data. :( After all, being the socially inept weirdo I am, I don't really have many friends IRL, and with a move coming up, I'm seriously doubting my ability to make more. That makes your question all the more depressing.. in 12 hours, lose pretty much my entire outlet for socializing..? I'd probably spend that time hanging out with whoever else is around and hoping that the internet is brought back again shortly after.

Besides, when I'm in my periods of not-much-interneting, I'm more likely to be found reading books (I have a ton of those that I enjoy re-reading) and doing jigsaw puzzles. I do have some console games I could finish, too.. and some I wouldn't mind a replay on.. and more would still be coming out..

Let's think about where I work... Do I ever need to download anything? Only if I don't want to wait (or reveal my embarrassing musical tastes to my coworkers).  Get your ass to a library (this probably doesn't apply for everyone but in the states our libraries are pretty great).

Much like raela, the internet is more used as a means of socializing, because apparently I am a terrifying monster irl or something (I do have irl friends, I even appear to be capable of making new ones, which is good since all of mine move away periodically).  So you can bet I'd be pulling some addresses before rushing off to get some stamps and a bunch of postcards.  MAILTIME.

Also this gif.

It makes me happy.

I would download few games that would keep me entertained, and also are replayble. Few movies that I enjoy watching, and don't mind watching again. We have lot of movies at home, so those are not that important. Just like raela and allu, I would grab tons of addresses so I still can keep in contact with friends all around the world. As a music lover, I would download hours and hours and hours, of music.

I would mostly miss social contacts, as you might know, I don't leave the house much. All my friends live either in another city or country. But with no internet, I would be forced to go and socialize. For me internet down every now and then would actually be good thing.

Hmm... thinking about it, I dont really use much the internet, even to socialize... well other than for gaming in RO2...

I mainly read manga and manga and more manga and also light novels...

Pretty much I would download a full English-Spanish Dictionary, the DRAE webpage or something like that, all the light novels I can and so I can continue my light novel translations.

As for downloads, mainly I go for animes, altho I dont watch them more than once, and as of late I havent been much motivated to do so... Im not a movie-maniac or TV-Series fanatic, since I feel those are the kind of stuff you watch with family or friends, and I have no friendz :v (well, I do, but meh)...

If Internet shuts down, my current No 1 option is my PS3, with Lightning Returns... hard mode so far has been surprisingly... easy... I wonder how will the hidden bosses be O_o!! (Im also wondering how to get into the photography mode so I can take pics of her panties!) oh well...

My computer is pretty capable of emulatin PS2 games (altho I actually have a PS2), so I could download something and play it XP

Last time I tried Tales of the Abyss, it really kept me away from the internet for a lot of time O__o!!

Pretty much downloading a game would be what I would do then, an RPG most likely xP
Nick -> Lein
Leinzan -> Average Rogue!
Aiot -> Monkey Assassin!
Citlalicue -> Cursing Crescentia of the Vengenful Stigma!
Arkenne -> Squishy Tanky Monk

well...library tiemz. I'd miss my music though, I can't buy Japanese music in stores here (nor manga's (I don't want to read them in French ;_; ) or anime)
It would make work easier though, no whining about malfunctioning servers, woo!
I'd miss my 2 American best I guess I'd just plan a huge holiday to visit them \o/

There's too many things I would like to do before internet is over but I'll just end up by saying (typing) on every social media page: 'So long and thanks for all the fish.'
